Mid-rangeOverall good quality. This is a wide category, but you can expect a comfortable stay.
Clean and comfy no-frills accommodation with spacious social areas, close to Ollantaytambo train station and main square. The terracotta-painted buildings of the hotel are in beautiful gardens, with flower-lined stone paths meandering through the grounds.
Pakaritampu is an unpretentious, independently-owned hotel conveniently near Ollantaytambo station for trains to Machu Picchu, and just a 10-minute walk from the town square with shops, restaurants and cafés. Rooms and suites are simple in design but come with mod cons such as TV, Wi-Fi and en-suite shower room with toiletries. Hotel staff can arrange cultural and historical excursions in the Sacred Valley, as well as activities like hiking and horse riding, so there’s plenty to see and do.
Between times you are free to join other guests for meals in the dining room where you have a choice of Andean and international fare, relax in the lounge by the blazing fire as you leaf through a book or watch TV. There are seating areas in the lovely gardens where you can rest and watch the hummingbirds and alpacas.
It’s a really tranquil haven in the mountains, quite unexpected so close to the station and town.

Luis the Llama likes this because…
“A large majority of the staff and many of the guides at Pakaritampu are drawn from the local community. The hotel makes financial contributions to schools and churches, and sells locally made products in its shop, all benefitting local people.”
And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Peru Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of South America and Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.
