Amantani Island Homestay
BasicA place to sleep with access to a bathroom. Not right for everyone. Can be an experience.
Amantani Island Homestay
Get an authentic taste of life on Amantani Island on Lake Titicaca, staying overnight as a guest of a friendly and hospitable local family in their modest homes, sharing their food. Meet other members of the community, join in evening music and entertainment and enjoy trips to neighbouring islands.
Amantani Homestay benefits both you as a guest and the islanders. You get a genuine insight into life on the island, eating with the family, meeting other villagers at a local gathering, often with music and dance, and spending the night in one of the family’s bedrooms. Ten Amantani communities take turns in hosting travellers, each village distinguished by differences in the colour and style of their dress.
As the homestay service is managed and run by the Amantani islanders, any income generated by your stay benefits the entire community, allowing them to preserve their traditional way of life based on farming, fishing and weaving. If you can cope with the altitude, hike up the peaks of Pachamama (Mother Earth) or Pachatata (Father Earth) for panoramic views of Lake Titicaca.
As well as spending time on Amantani, you see the man-made Uros islands built with tortora reeds and home to the Uros Indians, and visit Taquile Island where men do the knitting and the women weave, producing fine textiles and clothes.

Luis the Llama likes this because…
“The Amantani Homestay operation is run by the islanders, and all revenue generated by guests goes back into the community. This provides welcome income which enables the islanders to maintain their traditional way of life and preserve their culture and customs.”
And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Peru Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of South America and Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.
