Belmond Andean Explorer
Operates between Cusco and Arequipa
Belmond Andean Explorer
Travel one of the world’s highest train routes in supreme comfort on board this luxury sleeper train. Fine dining, elegant accommodation, a spa railcar, incredible – and constantly changing – views, plus off board excursions to take you closer to some of the highlights of Peru. This really is an experience to treasure.
South America’s first luxury sleeper train offers an unforgettable experience. You will enjoy fantastic scenery not just viewed through the windows of your elegant cabin or from the train’s Observation, Lounge or Bar Cars, but also during guided excursions to points of interest such as Lake Titicaca, the Inca ruins at Raqch’l, the Uros Islands and the La Raya market, depending on the route you have chosen.
The real romance, of course, is in life on board the train itself, as the 16 immaculately-liveried carriages traverse the Andean plains. Launched in 2017, Belmond Andean Explorer offers the traditional indulgences of classic luxury rail travel – sipping cocktails as the pianist plays, pampering yourself with a massage in the Spa Car, indulging in superb food, or simply enjoying your splendid en suite cabin. However, it does so with a twist; the impeccable service may be of a quality reminiscent of vintage rail travel, but the stylish surroundings are contemporary and perfectly designed for their Andean setting, with linen-covered walls, stone bathrooms, earthen tones, alpaca wool and hand-woven textiles.
In the Dining Cars there are design echoes of the classic luxury trains of old, with a modern take on Art Deco. The menus have been created by that champion of Peruvian cuisine, Diego Muñoz, and fine wines complement the haute cuisine. This is a truly memorable rail journey.
Peruvian Highlands (2 nights on board) – Cusco to Arequipa, stopping at the Inca site of Raqch’I, and including a boat trip to the Uros Islands and Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca, and a private lunch on Collata Beach
Andean Plains and Islands of Discovery (2 nights on board) – Arequipa to Cusco (excursions as above)
Spirit of the Water (1 night on board) – Cusco to Puno, excursion at La Raya mountain range
