It’s not hard to believe, as you rest in your stone-walled bed chamber, that this building dates back to the 16th century and was once part of a church complex. Atmosphere is paired with modern design to create a stylish and sophisticated hotel in the heart of Arequipa.

Cirqa is a wonderfully atmospheric and historic building, founded in the same year as the city of Arequipa, 1540. It continues a long traditional of hospitality with today’s guests receiving food and accommodation from their hosts in the same way their forebears received from monks, this having been part of San Agustin church. Original features such as thick stone walls, vaulted ceilings and courtyards are combined with contemporary design, fixtures and fittings, giving Cirqa a unique style.

Bedrooms are full of character with their stone walls giving them the feel of cosy bed chambers. Wooden wardrobes and shelves are fitted into alcoves and provide handy storage, and well positioned lamps add light. All are en-suite and you’ll find welcome snacks and drinks to greet your arrival.

Food is rightly considered a key part of your stay and the kitchen uses ingredients from the local area to produce dishes inspired by those served in countryside picanterias (local Arequipan eateries) but given additional refinement in line with a hotel of this ilk. Meals are served in the dining room exclusive for guest use, and on the rooftop terrace which is also open to the public.

The hotel is just one block from Arequipa’s main square, Plaza de Armas, so is perfectly located for sightseeing. You can book guided tours of differing durations to explore the city and environs.

Cirqa can be booked on a half board (breakfast plus lunch or dinner) or fully inclusive basis, the latter including two half day or one full day excursion.
