Colca Lodge Spa & Hot Springs

A charming thatched 45-room eco-lodge in a stunning position on the banks of the Colca River, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and volcanoes. Bathe in the hotel’s thermal pools, explore the Colca Canyon on foot, horseback or bike, or just relax and enjoy Andean food, spa treatments and amazing views. It even has its own alpaca farm

This is an immensely relaxing and romantic place to stay, from its glorious location to the elegant contemporary rural simplicity of the beautiful décor. Winding paths take you from your room through the gardens to the spa for a massage or to the hotel’s private thermal pools by the river bank. Immerse yourself in the warmth of one of the mineral-rich pools on a cool night and gaze up at countless stars. The views are wonderful – ancient farming terraces are carved into the mountainous landscape, and the gardens give way to fields of crops without the barriers of walls or fences.

There are two options for dining, either in the restaurant, overlooking the valley, or in the cosier bar and grill. You must try ‘Alpandina’ fusion cuisine, which combines Alpine cooking techniques with Andean produce. Good use is made of the adjacent river – you can enjoy the freshest of trout, barbecued by the river bank.

You can hike to the Uyo Uyo pre-Inca ruins and go horse riding or biking through the rural landscape. The hotel also has its own alpaca ranch just across the river, so you can spend time with these charismatic, friendly furry creatures and their llama ‘stablemates’.

Times to Go

May to November is the best time to visit Colca Canyon, as you avoid the wettest season.

Luis the Llama likes this because…

“Colca Lodge is focused on sustainability, with the hotel’s heating coming from the natural hot springs, and hot water in the bathrooms is solar heated. The hotel supports the local community by employing many local people, and by donating to schools and helping to maintain rural pathways.”

And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Peru Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of South America and Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.
