Hotel Isla Suasi

This intimate hotel built of stone, adobe, wood and thatch blends seamlessly into the landscape, offering gorgeous lake-view rooms, pretty gardens and sunny terraces. Explore on foot and by kayak, discover the island’s culture and history in the hotel’s museum, and enjoy tasty local fare.

Getting to the hotel is part of the adventure, departing Puno by speedboat for the 4-hour ride to 43-hectare Isla Suasi, the only private island on Lake Titicaca, stopping off to see Uros and Taquile islands on the way. Once you arrive you’ll appreciate the beautiful and peaceful setting overlooking Lake Titicaca with the snow-capped mountains of Bolivia in the distance. The hotel has the feel of a country house, with spacious social areas, terraces and pretty, flower-filled gardens popular with hummingbirds. All rooms face the lake, with spectacular views through large picture windows and are decorated with local artwork.

A private lakeside cottage is available for those desiring greater privacy. Make yourself at home as you stroll though the grounds, relax in a hammock and take in the views. At meal times you’re treated to cuisine made from local ingredients including quinoa and lake trout, and can dine outdoors on the sunny terrace.

You can explore Suasi Island on guided walks, see traditional farming, watch wildlife, spot alpacas, vicuñas and vizcachas and go kayaking. The hotel’s small museum, curated by the owner, has lots of interesting background information about the culture, history and landscapes of the island.
