Hotel Monasterio

Relish the refined atmosphere of this former monastery, a national historic landmark, as you relax in the courtyard, dine on fine Peruvian cuisine and admire the large collection of historic religious art. What’s more, Hotel Monasterio has an ideal location a stone’s throw from the Plaza de Armas.

Belmond Hotel Monasterio, as the name implies, is a former monastery, and retains the ambience of peaceful retreat, helped by the impeccable and courteous service provided by its staff.

The central courtyard, complete with fountain, small church and 300-year old cedar tree, is surrounded by cloisters, which are illuminated after dark. Skilful stonework, antiques and religious art feature throughout the hotel. Rooms and suites are suitably elegant and vary in layout and décor yet incorporate mod cons such as TV, iPod dock and air conditioning. On Plaza las Nazarenas, in the historic heart of Cusco, it’s only a short walk to the cathedral, so it’s easy to explore the major tourist spots at your leisure.

There are also some fine places to eat and drink nearby, but with a gourmet restaurant on site you don’t need to stray far in search of fine dining. Keen foodies will relish the chance to be ‘chef for a day’, and you can also learn how to create the perfect Pisco Sour, just a couple of the special activities offered here. When you crave relaxation take yourself to the therapy suite for some well deserved pampering.

Luis the Llama likes this because…

“Belmond is committed to responsible tourism. They operate a ‘think global, act local’ policy. At Hotel Monasterio they work with local farmers to source unusual ingredients at fair prices, and purchase dairy produce and flowers from a nearby organic farm.”

And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Peru Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of South America and Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.
