MV Aria Amazon
This is cruising in style. Daily off-ship excursions with a naturalist guide into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve allow you to experience the rich Amazon environment, before returning to the creature comforts of Aria Amazon. Enjoy the views through the full length windows of your suite, dine on haute cuisine using Amazonian ingredients, soak in the jacuzzi and relax in the lounge.
Aria Amazon is a purpose-built river expedition vessel, designed by the architect Jordi Puig, carrying a maximum of 32 passengers, at once intimate and exclusive. The observation deck features an indoor lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows, a bar and library, and is used for regular talks by the guides as well as for relaxing. Outdoor space on this deck includes an inviting jacuzzi and comfy sun loungers.
Savour exquisite locally-inspired gourmet cuisine created by renowned Peruvian chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, in the stylish dining room, and enjoy some pampering at the spa. Arguably the most striking feature of each suite is the plate glass wall that allows you to watch traffic on the river and people on the banks as you pass by.
Excursions are offered several times daily into the rainforest or along tributaries with an expert naturalist guide who will take you birdwatching, spot wildlife and explain the eco-system of the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, the most extensive protected floodable forest in the Amazon Basin.
There is also kayaking, swimming and fishing, all the while enjoying the scenery along the rivers Marañón, Ucayali and Amazon. Spare time to visit the shop where you can buy Peruvian craftworks as well as specially commissioned Aqua Expeditions items, all excellent mementoes of your holiday.
Times to Go
MV Aria Amazon operates year round, in both the dry (low water, June – October, lowest in August) and rainy (high water, November – May) seasons, although during low water the section between Nauta and Iquitos is done by road, depending on the length of your cruise. The wet season usually gets only about 10% more rain than the dry, and there is likely to be rain even in the dry season.
You can expect to see a variety of wildlife, birds and vegetation at any time of year, but during high water when the forest is flooded, the animals are only on the ground above the high water level, while during low water there is a landscape of small rivers, creeks and lagoons with lots of birds catching fish in places where water remains.

Luis the Llama likes this because…
“Aqua Expeditions supports a number of conservation initiatives including re-population of vulnerable species through release programmes and working with the manatee rescue centre which saves and rehabilitates orphaned manatees. They have sustainable practice guidelines to maximise fuel efficiency and minimize carbon dioxide emissions. They use biodegradable cleaning products and help to eliminate plastic waste by giving each passenger a reusable water bottle which can be refilled on board. Proceeds from the sale of artisanal pieces in the shop go to social projects in the communities visited by Aria Amazon.”
And don’t forget … for every booking we take, Peru Specialists (which is part of Tribes Travel) plants trees in deforested areas of South America and Africa through The Travel Forest, and we also back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects. You can read more about our TRAVEL + PROTECT initiative on our Tribes website, including ways you can help with our ongoing projects.
